AAHPERD Helps Break Guinness World Record with First Lady Michelle Obama

Reston, VA-On October 11, 2011, The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) joined First Lady Michelle Obama, National Geographic Kids magazine, and President's Council on Fitness, Sport & Nutrition member and Olympian Michelle Kwan on the South Lawn of the White House to break the Guinness World Record for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period. Mrs. Obama kicked off the event, which spanned across the world.

AAHPERD, who partnered with National Geographic Kids in support of the event, also helped to recruit schools across the nation to help break the record. Participating schools received a message from the First Lady encouraging them to stay active and thanking them for participating in the record-breaking event.

AAHPERD was proud to work with National Geographic Kids to promote its Let's Move in School initiative, which supports the goal of Let's Move and pledges to give teachers, principals, superintendents, school boards, and parents the support they need to help our kids to become more physically educated and active in school.
