Director, Research Consortium of AAHPERD
Gayle Claman came to AAHPERD in August 2000, first as Program Administrator for Physical Best and then as Professional Services Manager within NASPE. She has served in the role of Research Consortium Director since January 2006. The Research Consortium is a member interest group of AAHPERD of approximately 5,000 research scholars and other members of the Alliance's Associations who have a strong interest in research. Activities and publications of the Consortium include research grants, research Fellows, and the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport journal.
Claman holds both bachelors and masters degrees in the HPERD fields. She received her BS degree from James Madison University in health science, with a concentration in fitness and health promotion and a minor in dance. Following graduation, she worked for several years in corporate and commercial fitness as a fitness center director, assistant manager, personal trainer and group exercise instructor. She then attended Marymount University as a graduate student and graduate assistant from 1998-2000, where she completed a MS in Health Promotion Management and graduate certificate program in Instructional Design before coming to work at AAHPERD shortly after graduation.
