Assessing Skill in Educational Gymnastics
Lynda M. Nilges-Charles
Abstract:
Teachers often struggle to find viable assessment options that are appropriate for students and match standards-based performance outcomes. In educational gymnastics, uncertainty about how to develop the content can make assessment an even greater challenge. This article shows how progressive assessment can be aligned with the stages of content development for educational gymnastics to meet outcomes in the national standards for physical education. The stages of content development are used as a framework that allows teachers to develop content and assess and report student progress in educational gymnastics in a meaningful, standards-based way. Different assessment options at each stage of content development are offered.
