Best Practices of Effective Student-Teacher Supervision Based on NASPE Standards
Diana Mozen
Abstract:
Physical education teacher education (PETE) programs across the nation try to adhere to the ten NASPE/AAHPERD beginning teacher standards. This article gives examples of best practices for supervising student teachers using the standards as an outline. While student teaching is only one part of a comprehensive assessment, it should combine students’ knowledge, values, and beliefs with their hands-on teaching experience. Their behaviors should be systematically observed and evaluated by a supervisor who possesses knowledge of effective teaching practices and the NASPE/AAHPERD standards.
