Congratulations! A Guide for the New Graduate Student
The decision to become a doctoral student may be frightening for some, due to the many unknown factors the process entails. This article, written in the form of a letter from a student who survived the program, shares an insider’s view of the process of becoming a physical education teacher education doctoral student. Issues discussed include the learning process and doctoral course work, becoming a graduate teaching assistant, choosing an advisor, establishing a doctoral committee, forming a plan of study, facing the comprehensive and oral examinations, and presenting the prospectus and dissertation documents.
