Introduction
Bonnie Mohnsen

Abstract:
Physical education based on concepts and principles emphasizes the how and why of its content. It typically uses a problem-solving instructional approach, helping students develop into independent, physically educated adults. This feature identifies crucial concepts and principles of each of the subdisciplines of physical education (exercise physiology, motor learning, motor development, biomechanics, sociology/psychology, aesthetics, and historical perspectives) and describes how to teach these concepts and principles in physical activity settings. It will provide K-12 instructors and pedagogy professionals with practical ideas for teaching to the national standards by using a curriculum model based on concepts and principles. In addition, it will interest college and university professionals by demonstrating the relationship between the content they teach to future teachers and its application in the field.
