Digital Video Assignments: Focusing a New Lens on Teacher Preparation Programs
Leah Holland Fiorentino
Abstract:
Since NCATE requires teacher preparation programs to integrate technology, this article begins the dialogue for sharing start-up strategies. This article shows how one program (Adelphi University) has integrated digital video assignments into the teacher preparation program. It is hoped that this will spur interest and effort from other teacher preparation programs. The sample digital video assignments included in the article show how traditional assignments can be altered to present students with a different approach to learning. Designed during the pilot project, these assignments now serve as the foundation for a new style of assessing student learning. The Adelphi faculty is now collecting evidence to show that the use of digital video assignments actually strengthens the learning experience of preservice teachers.
