Effective Teaching Practices During Physical Fitness Testing
Amanda Stewart, Steven Elliot, B. Ann Boyce, & Martin E. Block
Abstract:
Physical educators across the country are often required to conduct fitness tests and report the subsequent scores to their local and/or state school systems. Fitness testing is a common component of many physical education programs. The purpose of this article is to give teachers suggested modifications to the fitness-testing procedure, to make it more meaningful for all involved. General suggestions deal with the overall testing procedures and have the potential to increase student enjoyment and test results. The mile run, curl-ups, pull-ups, and back-saver sit-and-reach tests are covered individually, with tips to optimize each test.
