Integrating Physical Education, Math, and Physics
Greg Hatch & Darla R. Smith

Abstract:
The primary goal of education is to help students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to solve the problems that occur in real-life situations. One of the most touted methods for achieving this goal is through curriculum integration. Physical education students can benefit from an integrated curriculum. NASPE’s Standards for Initial Programs in Physical Education Teacher Education specifically outline in standard 6.6 that the physical educator will “provide learning experiences that allow students to integrate knowledge and skills from multiple subject areas.” The national curriculum standards for math and science also support interdisciplinary collaboration. The proposed project integrates physical education, physics, and mathematics, and has been successfully implemented at the high school level.
