Medicine Ball for All: A Novel Program that Enhances Physical Fitness in School-age Youths
Avery Faigenbaum & Patrick Mediate
Abstract:
“Medicine Ball for All” is a progressive, enjoyable, and inexpensive physical activity program designed to provide children and teenagers with a meaningful learning experience that is consistent with their developmental needs. This novel program consists of a variety of medicine ball exercises designed to improve physical fitness, enhance self-confidence, and increase sensory awareness through visual, auditory, and tactile stimulation. Instead of isolating fitness components, “Medicine Ball for All” integrates strength, power, flexibility, endurance, agility, balance, and speed into one creative program. With the current focus on physical education programs to develop and enhance health-related fitness, physical competence, and positive attitudes about physical activity, “Medicine Ball for All” activities can be a worthwhile addition to any physical education program.
