Physical Activity Promotion: A Responsibility for Both K-12 Physical Education and Kinesiology
Charles B. Corbin & Thomas L. McKenzie
Abstract:
A “disciplinary disconnect” has been caused by the fact that disciplinary classes offered at universities are not always “connected” with physical education, often making the content of core courses irrelevant to the preparation of preservice teachers. A “professional disconnect” also occurs when programs misplace or diminish the importance of physical activity—the principle objective of physical education. This article provides suggestions for diminishing these disconnects and for addressing the real needs of physical education’s clients: students.
