Preserving Our Legacy for Future Generations of Educators
Colleen Porter Hearn & Kacy E. Crabtree
Abstract:
Preserving dance history for future generations includes documenting and maintaining the life and work of dance pioneers who today’s dance educators can learn from and imitate. This article offers basic guidelines for conducting interviews; preserving valuable documentation, including photographs and recordings; and unearthing forgotten stories that have been lost in old archives—all in order to keep the history of dance and the legacy of its leaders alive. The article also includes examples of interviews with several dance pioneers and the discovery of a valuable piece of dance history.
