Socci: Diversify Your Sportfolio
Joseph D. Culhane, Timothy D. Davis, Scott Johnson, & Carla Vidoni

Abstract:
The nontraditional sport of Socci provides physical educators with effective methods for teaching tactics and strategies through the tactical games approach. Socci is a unique invasion sport played on a circular field with three-dimensional, circular goals that include open space behind them, as in hockey and lacrosse. Participants kick, volley, and pass a ball around the field and towards the goal. This article presents a tactical approach to teaching Socci utilizing the teaching games for understanding (TGFU) model and includes offensive and defensive Socci lesson plans. Socci will enhance any invasion-sport curriculum already using the TGFU model and will lead to increased student activity levels, enthusiasm, and motor skills. The developmental nature of Socci also gives children with disabilities a better chance for success in learning and participating in this sport, and this article suggests various adaptations for including children of all ability levels.
