Standards and Practice in Korean Physical Education
Sang Suk Yoo & Ha Young Kim
Abstract:
Since the establishment of the South Korean government in 1948, education has expanded and progressed rapidly. In 1955, the first Korean National Curriculum of Physical Education (KNCPE) was established. Since then, the KNCPE has been revised six times, with the seventh version adopted in 1997. Revisions of the curriculum aimed to change the traditional top-down structure of the curriculum and to encourage a well-articulated sequence in the curriculum across school years. This article addresses the state of physical education in South Korea, and compares its differences and similarities to physical education programs in the United States.
