The Influence of Technology in Pop Culture on Curriculum and Instruction
Derrick Mears
Abstract: Today's high degree of technology saturation is creating a generation of learners who exhibit a distinctly different set of learning characteristics than their predecessors. These differences will require health and physical educators to investigate new and innovative strategies in an attempt to meet their unique needs. This article examines four key topics: the impact of technology use on childhood obesity and sedentary behaviors; the effects of social marketing and how trends are influencing the nutritional choices made by children and adolescents; the learning characteristics of today's children; and the challenges of technology for public schools.
