Teaching Game Sense in Soccer
Shane Pill
Abstract: "Game sense" is a sport-specific iteration of the teaching games for understanding model, designed to balance physical development of motor skill and fitness with the development of game understanding. Game sense can foster a shared vision for sport learning that bridges school physical education and community sport. This article explains how to implement game sense at different stages of game development (soccer is used as the main example, but the concept also applies to other invasion games). It also contrasts the design format of a game-sense session and a traditional coaching session.
