About the Research Consortium

The mission of the Research Consortium is to advance and disseminate research in physical activity and health.

The Research Consortium serves as the coordinating organization within AAHPERD in support of research across the disciplines and the professions served by AAHPERD. The discipline areas represented within the Consortium include: biomechanics, dance, exercise physiology and fitness, health, leisure and recreation, measurement and evaluation, motor behavior, pedagogy, physical activity epidemiology, psychology, sociocultural aspects of physical activity, special populations, sport management and administration and sports medicine.

The Consortium is governed by an Executive Board, which is comprised of an Executive Committee and representatives of the National Associations of AAHPERD. Standing committees are appointed to plan the annual convention program, review grant proposals, review and make recommendations on Fellow nominations, and to guide and direct other activities of the Consortium. The RQES Editorial Board is also within the RC structure.

The two boards and standing committees are represented on the RC Organizational Chart, and further described in the Research Consortium Bylaws.icon_memberOnly

How do I Join the Research Consortium?

The Consortium is comprised of approximately 5,000 research scholars and other members of the Alliance's Associations who have a strong interest in research. To join the Research Consortium at any point during the year, AAHPERD members may login to the AAHPERD Web site as a member, select Member Profile Update, click the tab for Demographic Information and check the Research Consortium Member box and save. Members may also call (800) 213-7193 x490 or check the Research Consortium box on membership application or renewal forms. Membership in the Research Consortium is available free of charge to AAHPERD members. The work of the Consortium is funded primarily by net profits from AAHPERD's journal, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport.
