Call for Student Representative

The Research Consortium (RC) is seeking a doctoral student to serve on the RC Executive Board for 2012 through 2014. This two-year term (commencing upon completion of the 2012 AAHPERD National Convention and Exposition) extends a 3-year pilot project for doctoral student representation on the board. As a pilot program, the student is a non-voting member of the board. The purpose of appointing a doctoral student representative to the Research Consortium Executive Board is threefold:

  • To provide the board with direct input from a student regarding the programs and services of the Research Consortium;
  • To facilitate communication between the Research Consortium and young professionals and researchers;
  • To introduce a student to the governance and processes associated with the programs of the Research Consortium.

Qualifications:

  • Current AAHPERD/RC member
  • Current full-time doctoral student with anticipated graduation date of 2014 or later

Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate in all meetings, communications and business of the RC Executive Board (expenses related to meetings at AAHPERD headquarters in Reston, VA are covered)
  • Attend the AAHPERD National Convention/RC Business meeting during her/his term (at their own expense)
  • Participate in the planning of graduate student focused activities at the AAHPERD National Convention
  • Help identify and facilitate other activities focused on graduate student engagement and participation in the RC

Selection Process:

Incoming RC President Dr. Melinda Solmon will lead the review of applicants in consultation with the other RC Executive Committee members. Applicants will be notified by March 2, 2012.
