Congratulations to Melinda Solmon who has been elected as the 2011-12 AAHPERD Research Consortium President-Elect. The RC welcomes Dr. Solmon to the Research Consortium Executive Board along with several other newly appointed members.
Dr. Solmon was elected as a RC Fellow in 1994 and has a strong record of involvement in the RC. She served as Secretary (1998-2000), two terms as Pedagogy Review Panel Chair (1997, 2010), member of the ethics committee (2002), and as a member (2001) and later chair (2003) of the research writing award committee. This past year she completed a three year term on the grants committee, including service as the chair in her final year. In addition to these service roles, she has also been an active scholar in the RC. She was identified as one of the top 10 individual presenters in the RC Annual program from 1992-2006 (Cardinal & Schultz, 2007) and co-authored the overview of pedagogy as a subdiscipline for the 75th Anniversary Issue of Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. She has received a RC Established Investigator Grant, and mentored students who received a Graduate Student RC Grant Award and the Graduate Student Research Award. Dr. Solmon has served on numerous panels, made several invited presentations for graduate students and young scholars through AAHPERD, and presented a RC Scholar Lecture in 2006.
