The R. Tait McKenzie Memorial Lecture opens the AAHPERD National Convention and Exposition on the eve of the first full day of sessions. Initiated in 1967 to honor the life and work of this pioneer in both the arts and sciences of sport and physical activity, the Lecture recognizes an outstanding professional outside of the HPERD fields whose work has the potential to infuse the organization with new ideas for implementation and new directions for exploration. The C. H. McCloy Research Lecture provides for in-depth coverage of a research topic and an opportunity to give formal peer recognition to persons who have made outstanding contributions to HPERD through their research efforts. The lecture also provides a form of continuing recognition for Charles H. McCloy, one of the great pioneer scientists and leaders of the profession. The C.H. Rosalee G. Weiss. established the Raymond A. Weiss Research Lecture Series to honor her husband. Dr. Weiss is a former department chairperson and head of the Division of Physical Education, Health and Recreation, New York University. He retired in 1981 following 33 years of teaching, administration, and research at that institution. The purpose of the Lecture is to support a scholarly presentation by an individual in the arts and sciences who is an outstanding leader and who has made an important contribution to his or her field, and who has ties to one or more of the fields of HPERD. |
