Ft. Worth 2008 Contest

Fort Worth 2008
Free Throw and Rope Jumping Contest

By: Larry Doyle, OH AHPERD JRFH State Coordinator

Did you make it to Ft. Worth for the AAHPERD Convention?
Did you happen to see the Big Contest on Wednesday between 2-4pm?

Basketballs were arching gracefully, trying to make the familiar trek from the free-throw line to the nylon netting connected to the steel rims.  There were nearly 1000 attempted free-throws in Fort Worth this year.

The objective was to make as many baskets as possible out of 10 free-throws.  In addition to the basketball contest, there was a rope jumping contest where the participants had to jump as many times as they could in 30 seconds.  There were a couple young ladies from the ZZ Skippers who jumped 103 times in 30 seconds.  WOW!

The contests were free, the atmosphere was festive and many VIP’s made their way to the large activity area to try their hand.  Mr. Al Stephens, the President of the Ohio AAHPERD, shows up every year.

Sue Long, The President of Midwest AAHPERD helped to rebound basketballs and record scores for anxious contestants.  Helpers included many members and former members of the Joint Projects Committee. I would like to extend a big thank you to all who make this annual event a success, especially Caroline Taylor and Sharon Cassette from the National Joint Projects Office in Reston, VA.

Listed below are some of the high scorers for Fort Worth 2008.

We are sorry if your name is missing but some of the registration forms were not turned in so we couldn’t record the names and scores.
