The AAHPERD Student Services Committee is preparing this mini-conference that will be valuable for students in a four-year Undergraduate Program and students in a five-year Masters-level Teacher Education Program that leads to an initial teaching license. This multi-day schedule will allow the students who arrive after Wednesday to attend the Thursday and Friday morning sessions. We invite students to attend as many of the sessions as possible. When designing the schedule, the Student Services Committee made an effort to avoid conflicts with other sessions that the students should attend, such as NASPE and AAHE Majors of the Year Ceremonies, Student Poster Session, LMIS event, and Super Stars.
The Forum is open to all students attending the Convention. The planning committee invites State, National and District Associations to send up to 5 students as Delegates to the Forum. The Delegate Fee is $30 each and includes Convention Registration. The identified Delegates must submit a Delegate Confirmation Form.
Professional development topics covered at the 2012 Undergraduate Student Forum will include: mentoring, networking, advocacy, majors clubs, and career building tips and strategies.
The tentative schedule for the Forum is as follows:
Wednesday, 7:30 – 11:30 am: This session will start with a lively Ice Breaker activity followed by the participants attending the Convention Opening General Session as a group. This will be followed by the development of a Game Plan for maximizing your time at the Convention, and an introduction to Let's Move In School opportunities.
Thursday, 8-10 am: The program includes Tips for Career Building, Mentoring, and the Importance of Advocating for our Profession. The Majors Clubs session will provide an opportunity for students to gain and share ideas for active and successful Majors Clubs.
Friday, 8-10 am: This session includes a Future Professionals Networking Session with North American Society Members and strategies to develop leadership skills and capitalize on professional involvement. Several Registrations for the 2013 AAHPERD Convention will be raffled off at this session. The Forum concludes with a practical Speed Interviewing activity.
The members of the AAHPERD Student Services Committee are Charity Bryan, Jo Ellen Bailey, Barbara Cusimano, Adrienne Long, Ruth Rotini, Jack Murphy, Christina Boschetti, Alex Veeder, and Shawn Ladda.
