American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR)

Join us at the AAPAR Recognizing Outstanding Leaders Evening, where we will present AAPAR's most prestigious awards and introduce three new ones: the AAPAR Pathfinder Award, AAPAR Ambassador Award, and the Jan Seaman National Recognition Award.  Also new this year is the American Red Cross Lifesaver Award, given to AAHPERD members who have saved a life. The evening will feature winning videos from our premier Every Body Can! Adapted Physical Activity video contest. Two of our popular workshops will return this year—"Making Money on the Sidelines: Package Your Passion" offers participants the chance to discover how to use their unique skills and passions to earn extra income; and "Play On! Playgrounds & Programs that Increase Physical Activity," will highlight creative ways to use playground equipment as part of the school curriculum, during recess, in after-school programs, or as a way to create energizing breaks throughout the day.

National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS)

Dr. Joy T. DeSensi of the University of Tennessee Knoxville has been named as NAGWS' Rachel Bryant Lecturer for 2010 AAHPERD Convention.  DeSensi is Associate Dean of the University of Tennessee Graduate School and Professor in the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Leisure Studies Department where she served as Department Head for 10 years.  She currently serves as Co-Editor of Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal (WSPAJ).  Her research interests include the socio-cultural study of sport as it relates to issues of social justice, women in sport, globalization of sport, multiculturalism, and ethics in sport management.  Be sure to attend NAGWS Convention sessions on gender equity, mentoring, career paths for female administrators, kickboxing/self-defense, bullying and history of women's sport.

National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE)

Look for NASPE's PIPEline, Physical Best, STARS, and NCATE pre-convention workshops. Attend powerful sessions from experts and peers. Participate in Elementary and Secondary PE Day or Sport Day.  Join our Forums in your area of expertise and share your thoughts and opinions.

National Dance Association (NDA)

Race through Tuesday with our half-day intensive workshops: first the PIPEline Workshop, Teaching Dance in Secondary Physical Education conducted by Gary Sanders of St. Joseph's College and second, Latin Club Dancing. Learn how to implement the National Dance Standards in a session based on our new book plus, hear Scholar/Artist Gayle Kassing discuss future directions in dance education. Applaud our wonderful dancers at the evening gala performance and learn African American folk and social dances that the presenter was taught by his grandfather―plus a few new moves! Saturday will be an extra special Creative Folk Dance Day honoring our Heritage recipients Marlys Waller and Anne Pittman, authors of Dance a While. Creative dance specialist Anne Green Gilbert will pay homage with her presentation: Brain-Compatible Folk Dance.

Research Consortium

The 2010 Research Consortium Distinguished Lecture Series will feature RC Fellows James Rimmer (C. H. McCloy Lecture) and Patty Freedson (RQES Lecture). David Buchner of the University of Illinois will serve as the R. Tait McKenzie speaker and Ross Brownson will deliver the Raymond A. Weiss Lecture. In addition to approximately 250 peer-reviewed research paper presentations, the Consortium will again focus on student research through a student works-in-progress poster session and a graduate student forum.
