week of convention. These events may require a fee in addition to
the convention fee and/or require pre-registration. Some events require full
convention registration or pre-requisites to attend. Call or email the sponsoring association listed below before registering when pre-requisites are required.

AAHE

AAHE CEUs

Member and Non-Member Fee: $35

Convention Registration Required. AAHE will be awarding Category I Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) as a designated provider for the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. CHES and MCHES are available. Pay a flat rate of $35.00 for credit hours accrued during convention.

 

AAHE NCATE University Preparation

Wednesday, 4/24  8:00am-5:00pm

Fee: $100*

*The fee is $100 per institution and includes one set of the 2010 Guidelines for AAHE/NCATE Review of Initial Level Programs for Health Education Teacher Preparation.

Convention Registration Required. This workshop provides assistance to colleges/universities in preparing a program report. CHES/MCHES continuing education will be provided for this event.

 

SABPAC University and Reviewers Training

Wednesday, 4/24  9:00am-12:00pm

Member and Non-Member Fee: $60

This training session will assist health education program faculty and administrators to prepare for a successful SABPAC approval process and provide training for serving as a SABPAC reviewer for site visits to institutions under consideration for SABPAC approval. CHES/MCHES continuing education will be provided for this event.

The recipients of the 2013 E.B. Henderson Award and the Social Justice and Diversity Young Professional Award will be recognized at this event. Presented by the AAHPERD Social Justice & Diversity Committee.

Convention Registration Required. Our contact hours program is designed to help you document your professional development opportunities provided to you by the AAHPERD convention and AAPAR workshops. Bank of America Stadium Tour

AAPAR's Council on Facilities and Equipment sponsors this unique tour of Bank of America Stadium, home to the Carolina Panthers. This group will depart from the Charlotte Convention Center at 10:30am and will return at 12:30pm. The group will walk to the Bank of America Stadium.

NASPE

COSMA Accreditation Process Training

Wednesday, 4/24  8:30am-12:00pm

Member and Non-Member Fee: FREE

Convention Registration Required. This in-depth session will review the accreditation process from membership eligibility to candidacy status to writing the self study. We will break down each COSMA principle and walk through a site visit. Attendees should bring questions about their programs to be heard and answered in a workshop-style format.

 

NASPE Curriculum & Instruction Honor Award Luncheon

A breakfast to honor professionals making significant contributions through scholarship or service in the area of curriculum and instruction.

 

NASPE Hall of Fame Banquet

One of the most popular and memorable evenings at the convention, the NASPE Hall of Fame Banquet honors the best of the best in the fields of physical education, physical activity, and sport. Honorees include national and district physical education teachers of the year, Athletic Director of the year, Joy of Effort recipients, and Hall of Fame inductees among others.

 

NASPE Recertification Hours: National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification

Member and Non-Member Fee: $35

Convention Registration Required. NASPE is an approved provider for continuing education for athletic training through the Board of Certification (BOC). According to BOC Guidelines, you may earn one credit per one contact hour.

 

NASPE Recertification Hours: National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)

Member and Non-Member Fee: $35

Convention Registration Required. Earn continuing education units (CEUs) to maintain your NSCA certification at the AAHPERD National Convention.

 

NASPE Recertification Hours: Physical Education

Member and Non-Member Fee: $35

Convention Registration Required. Physical educators will receive a certificate verifying the number of hours spent attending sessions related to quality physical education. It is the individual's responsibility to verify that hours will be accepted by their school district or state, based on state requirements.

 

NASPE/NCACE Coaching Education Accreditation Workshop

Tuesday, 4/23  2:00pm-5:00pm

Member Fee: $70            Non-Member Fee: $80

Convention Registration Required. This workshop will prepare attendees to compile coaching education program information for accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE). Knowledgeable instructors with experience in successful review will provide valuable insight on how to prepare programs and provide examples of currently accredited programs. 

 

NASPE/NCATE Aligning Assignments, Assessments & Rubrics for Initial PETE Standards

Tuesday, 4/23  1:30pm-4:30pm

Member and Non-Member Fee: $100

Convention Registration Required and Pre-Registration Recommended. Learn all about developing assignments, assessments, and rubrics targeted at providing data/evidence that candidates meet the PETE standards/elements. This workshop will focus on aligning assessments/rubrics with the standards. Participants should bring along their student internship assessment. Sign up for short consultations with experienced reviewers to discuss assessment in your program.

 

Additional Information: Pre-registration is highly recommended. Onsite registrants may not receive workshop materials/handouts.

 

NASPE/NCATE Initial PETE Standards Program Report Preparation

Tuesday, 4/23  8:00am-12:30pm

Member and Non-Member Fee: $100

Convention Registration Required and Pre-Registration Recommended. This workshop will review the 2008 Initial PETE standards followed by an in-depth presentation on developing a successful program report. Round table discussions will focus on participant questions. Preparing Option B and C reports will be discussed. 

 

Additional Information: Pre-registration is highly recommended. Onsite registrants may not receive workshop materials/handouts. IMPORTANT: This workshop is a pre-requisite to attend the Wednesday NASPE/NCATE Program Report Reviewer Training.

 

NASPE/NCATE Lead Reviewers and Auditors Workshop

Friday, 4/26  10:30am-1:30pm

Member and Non-Member Fee: FREE

By Invitation Only. Convention Registration and Pre-Registration Required. Lead reviewers and auditors for the NASPE 2008 PETE Standards meet to discuss the latest activity at NCATE, review processes, training workshops, issues and concerns related to the PETE standards, and issues and concerns related to national recognition for programs.

 

NASPE/NCATE Program Report Reviewer Training

Convention Registration and Pre-Registration Required.

 

IMPORTANT: Registration for and participation in the NASPE/NCATE Initial PETE Standards Program Report Preparation Workshop on Tuesday, 4/23 is required.

This workshop provides an in-depth understanding of the review process and skills necessary to review NASPE/NCATE program reports using the 2008 Initial PETE Standards. Attendees will be expected to participate in the Fall 2013 review cycle.

NDA Heritage Luncheon Honoring Tap Dance Icon Dianne Walker

NDA celebrates the prestigious dance career of Dianne Walker by presenting her with the Heritage Award. Dianne’s lifetime of dedication to the art form of tap dance has taken her to Broadway, television, theatre, universities, workshops, and jazz venues throughout the world.

 

Research Consortium

C. H. McCloy Research Lecture and Breakfast

The annual C. H. McCloy Research Lecture and Breakfast provides a forum for a distinguished leader in the HPERD disciplines to present cutting edge research findings of interest to researchers and practitioners alike. During this widely attended event, the Research Consortium also presents several awards. The lecture serves as a continuing memorial to Charles H. McCloy, one of the great pioneer scientists and leaders of the profession.
